neon genesis evangelion

now..i'll get into details. it's as confusing as confusing can get. but trust me... if u like stories with dark themes... you'll love this. here goes... avis... i think you'll like it leh~~~

AD 2015. 15 years has passed since the Second Impact. ( that's a major catastrophe which happened in AD 2000 when the ice caps at the antartic melted. well.. it was actually created by an angel which exploded...) These angels are attacking the city of Tokyo-3, a specially planned city to expect and ambush these coming angels.

Angels are lifeforms that are beyond any humans. they come in all forms and are very destructive. ( often appears as humaniods in the series). they are the creations of adam and lilith ( they both have very hideous appearances in the series esp. lilith.. no offence to anyone.. i didn't draw it)...the 1st and 2nd angel respectively... with 18 of them. it goes back to the time when there was this tree with 17 fruits of life. they ate it but the 18th angel did not get to eat it. instead, the 18th angel took the fruit of intelligence. thus, Human is the 18th angel. it was rumoured that adam, in an embryo state was being confined under the NERV HQ ( explain that later) and the angels are now here to be one with adam (that's their aim)... once they combine with adam.. the Third Impact will take place.. and humankind will perish. they are however, very very strong, possessing strong Absolute Terror field (AT) .. a physical barrier field that can reduce power of all incoming attacking entities. ( humans have them too.. that's to seperate us from each other and stay in separate physical forms.. or else... you'll be me and i'll be you. something like that.)

to fight these creatures...here comes along our main characters.. the Evangelion ( Eva) . these machines can neutralize the AT field of the angels and thus fight them. there are altogether 4 Evas... ( the 5th didn't really show up in the series). they are created by NERV... the branch in charge of development of these Evas. their logo is the fig leaf, the symbol of the original sin which entangled Adam and Eve. ( love this idea). NERV is a branch of SEELE ( soul in german) , who has a really complicated mission which i hesitate to go into details. it will take years.

ok then... hope you're still with me. the Evas are to be piloted by children who can synchronise with it. piloting Eva-00, the first prototype Eva, was rei ayanami. coincidence on the name.. but not only that... she's a clone and thus had no soul within her ( that really coincides with me), and wasn't considered a human. she's a.k.a the first child. there's two rei-s cuz one was killed and thus the second one was born.

the second child, asuka langley soryu, a german-jap mix, piloting Eva-02. she's quite poor thing la... cuz she went into depression and sort of lose her mind when she fought the 15th angel... who retaliates by ... taking over her mind and forcing her to relive her most painful memories. cuz she's still being treated for depression... she's replaced by the fifth child... my favourite kaoru nagisa.

the third child, shinji ikari is the main lead of the whole series.. he's a timid boy... lonely and afraid to express himself. he pilots Eva-01. his father is the commander of SEELE and is quite psycho. eh.. ya.. psycho's the word. he created a lot of problems all because shinji's mother, a.k.a the commander's wife died in the project. so shinji actually doesn't really wanna get involved but he's chosen la.. so.. too bad.~~~

the fourth child, touji suzuhara is even more poor thing than the crazy asuka. his Eva-03 was contaminated by an angel during a fight and became the 13th angel. shinji's Eva-01 thus had to bring him down.. and touji lost an arm and a leg in the end... sigh... and thus he gave up his choice and left Tokyo-3.

the fifth child.... Kaoru Nagisa... ah..... was chosen to replace the now dysfuntional asuka, also known as the fifth child. he was born on september 13th ( yes avis..that's YOUR birthday. I'M JEALOUS) 2000... the day the Second Impact occured. his other name was Tabris, the angel of free will and a.k.a the 17th angel. he was undetected because he was the only angel to take on a human form ( complete with a beautiful voice...ahhh... ).. he became good friends with shinji ( to the extent til it had a hint of gayism in it.. or as they call it BL... boy love. haha ). he identified with shinji's loneliness and kindness. because he's an angel.. he could synchronize with the Evas so well that he didn't even have to be inside the Eva to pilot it. he could just stand one side and the Eva will fight on its own. since he wasn't suspected... he wanted to go to adam... but then realized that he was duped... cuz the one rumoured to be confined was lilith and not adam. shinji by this time felt really betrayed and then.. with his Eva-01.. he grabbed Kaoru.

then came the most impacting part of the whole series. after kaoru explained how mankind will die if he combines with adam... the scene pauses for one minute.

one full minute.

then Eva-01 kills him.

oh my god... i LOVE this. really.. i mean... it just gets into you. i was very disturbed... because the tension was building up all the while during that one minute.. will shinji kill his best friend??? will kaoru retaliate???

then it ends.

actually kaoru wanted to die.. in fact.. he was desperate for death.. because he wanted shinji and mankind to live. he really liked shinji and said a lot of stuffs like ... " maybe i was born to meet you" ... " everything's meaningful because of you" ... " i like you" that kinda things to shinji. very BL? i thought so too at first but then.. it didn't feel very weird.. cuz.. it just seems so natural.. anyway... some argue that Kaoru was an angel.. thus is genderless... just appears as a guy , that's all.. i just felt that if it was a female Kaoru saying those things.. it just seems so... weird. so... un-connected with the themes in this story.

anyway..the series ended here.. and the ending was in the form of the movie... end of evangelion and another one.. i think... i'm not too sure..do catch it.. it's really nice.. the ending theme's a very adeptly-titled " fly me to the moon".. hahah~~ nice..

i love the story. japanese animations love to combine religious stuffs into the storyline and it works wonders.

i can't believe i typed so much. hahah
